Through planned giving, our generous donors have helped shape the future of WellSpan Summit Health and the communities we serve. These are their stories.
Barb and Sam Runyon
Barb and Sam Runyon’s gift is a loving tribute to their daughter, Kristin, whose life was tragically cut short, thereby ending her beloved nursing career as an RN in neurology.
Barb, a retired nurse, appreciates WellSpan Summit Health’s commitment to the community and excellent care. She believes creating a nursing scholarship is a fitting way to honor Kristin’s passion for nursing and commitment to excellence. She and Sam originally intended to fund it personally but soon learned that family, friends, coworkers and even patients wanted to contribute.
The Runyons hope that the now-endowed scholarship will continue Kristin’s legacy of compassionate care. They are able to see this legacy in action, as the scholarship has funded over 60 nursing students to date and will continue to do so.
“It’s important to me that it lives on in perpetuity,” says Barb.
By planning ahead, you, too, can care for your loved ones now and support our ability to continue providing care to the communities we serve.
Including Summit Health Foundation in your will is easy to arrange, simple to modify and adaptable to your needs. There are many types of bequests. Let’s discuss the one that best fits your needs.
Joel Zullinger
As Chairman of the Summit Health Foundation Board of Directors, Joel Zullinger sees how contributions — especially planned gifts — impact not only WellSpan Summit Health but the greater good of the whole community.
“Planned gifts directly affect the quality and type of services Summit Health can offer,” he says. “Something we enjoy now is the result of someone in the past stepping up and stepping in.”
Joel’s right. By planning ahead, you can care for your loved ones now and support our ability to meet and exceed the needs of our community. You can support Summit Health Foundation by adding a few specific words to your will.
A gift from your will costs you nothing today, so consider a planned gift that is easy to arrange, simple to modify and adaptable to your needs.
“Gifts of all sizes and types are important,” says Joel. “Why not help out?”
There are many types of bequests — let’s discover the one that best fits your needs. If you have made or are considering a planned gift, let us know so we can be sure your gift is used as you intend, and of course so we can thank you!
Linda and Roger Schwalm
Both Linda and Roger Schwalm have needed WellSpan Summit Health on a number of occasions — in the ER and during planned procedures. They say they’ve been “very, very satisfied with the service and professionalism.”
When thinking about supporting some of their favorite causes, Roger says,
“There are so many worthwhile organizations to choose from. We chose the hospital because we have used it — and they do an awful lot of good work.”
The Schwalms’ planned gift helps ensure that WellSpan’s services are not only available when needed but also expand and improve to meet the community’s needs.
Roger and Linda have chosen to give through Qualified Charitable Designations from their IRA.
“We have to do it no matter what,” says Roger, “so why not turn it back around into something else, ensuring that service is still available to us and improves in the future.”
Designating Summit Health Foundation as a beneficiary of your IRA* allows you to meet your charitable goals, reduce your taxable income and create a meaningful legacy for the future without impacting your current assets or cash flow.
*If you prefer to give annually, making a charitable rollover this year is a smart way to do so!
